PD3 Semi-Automatic Pot Dispenser
First the operator adjusts the guides so that the carrier tray lines
up with the tubes. He then loads stacks of pots into each of the tubes.
(There may be two or three tubes on the machine depending on the carrier
tray being used.) The operator then positions the carrier tray on the
conveyor with one hand while pressing a button with the other hand which
dispenses a row of pots.
Why not make a fully automatic machine?
The primary reason was cost. We wanted to build a machine that was
priced so that it was accessible to most growers, not just the "big guys."
A semi-automatic machine allows any size grower to achieve productivity
gains without the prohibitive cost of a fully automatic machine. The second
reason is flexibility. The PD3 can be changed from one size pot to another
in less than ten minutes by changing heads which are already configured for
that particular pot. Fully Automatic machines can take hours to change
over.
What sizes and styles of pots can it do?
The PD3 can handle several different brands of thermoformed pots and
most injection molded pots in sizes from 4" round to 6"round. It cannot do
square pots at this time.
