WC4 Watering Conveyor
The WC4 is a 4
foot long watering conveyor. It has a stainless steel tub and a 12" wide
plastic-link conveyor belt. There is an electric eye (photo voltaic sensor)
at the beginning of the conveyor that turns on the water flow, and an
adjustable timer that controls how long the water stays on.
Many other watering conveyors are eight feet long or longer. The
WC4 has three advantages over these longer conveyors. First, it takes up
less space. Second, as soon as a product starts down the conveyor, all of
the sprayers on the conveyor turn on. With a longer conveyor the sprayers
near the end are running for quite a while before the product actually gets
to them, wasting water. The WC4 wastes less water because it doesn't take
as long to get from one end of the conveyor to the other. The third
disadvantage is cost. The longer the conveyor, the more materials are
needed to manufacture it, resulting in higher cost.
Over each of the sprayer wands are two 4" long,
sealed, plastic tubes. (one at each end of the wands) These are restrictor
sleeves. The restrictor sleeves allow the width the spray patter to be
narrowed from the standard 15" to as narrow as 8". This allows water to be
conserved when using narrower flats, plug trays and individual pots.
You will notice in the picture that there are only two spray
wands on the WC4, instead of three or more like the competition. The reason
we are able to do this is because each of the spray wands has three rows of
holes, each row at a different angle. This has two advantages. First, it
requires less plumbing. Which, in turn, allows us to manufacture it at a
lower cost. Second, the angled streams of water can better reach the soil
of a plant with large foliage, making more efficient use of water.
Each of the spray wands has over 250
very small (less than 1/32" in diameter) holes. These small holes provide a
very gentle stream of water while still being able to output a large volume
of water.
